FAQ

  • What can I recycle in the smartbin?

You can recycle all your small electronics in our bins. Deposit your cell phones, tablets, cameras, headphones, cables, peripherals, ink cartridges and any other small electronic device into the smartbin and we will make sure they get recycled responsibly and safely.

  • What happens to the electronics after you collect them?

Once the smartbin is full, the electronics collected are sent to RQO certified centres in Canada. The Recycler Qualification Office (RQO) audits and attests that the recycling centers follow rigorous regulations in regard to the recycling and refurbishing of materials. The RQO also imposes severe regulations for the destruction of personal data contained on the electronic devices, all while ensuring that the electronics are not exported to developing countries. A list of the certified recycling facilities can be found on the RQO website.

The materials derived from recycling, such as metals and plastics, are reused in the production of new products. Electronics that are suitable for reuse go through an extensive data destruction process and multiple functionality tests. They are then refurbished for a second life.

  • How do you destroy the data from the devices?

When you recycle a device in our bin, the data on your devices is safe! Once the electronics are sent to the recycling center, the data is erased by physical destruction. If an electronic device is to be refurbished, the data is destroyed with internal and external software specially designed for such tasks.

  • Can I recycle my company devices in the smartbin?

All small electronics can be recycled in our bins. Before you recycle your corporate devices, make sure you are given permission by your employer.

We also offer specialized solutions for businesses. To learn more, please visit www.electrobac.ca/corporate-services.

  • Where can I recycle my larger electronics (computers, television, printers, etc.)?

Electrobac is specialized in recycling small electronics exclusively. If you wish to recycle anything bigger than 14″ long by 4″ wide, you can find an official EPRA drop-off point here: https://www.recyclemyelectronics.ca/

If your electronic device does not fit in our bin, please do not leave it beside the bin. This may cause an inconvenience for our partners hosting our bins and affect our recycling effort.
